How It All Began...
In 1926, Sam Martin turned his farmhouse in Roanoke, Illinois into Martin Brothers Implement Co. For fifteen years, the business grew, causing Sam to expand the business by building right next to his home the dealership that is still in use today.
By 1960, Martin Brothers Implement Co had become a full-fledged family business, with Sam’s sons, Lewis Sr., Bob, John, Eugene and Wayne joining the fold. And beyond simple farm implements, Martin Brothers now offered John Deere Equipment, GE, Jeep and GMC products as well as fertilizer sales and grain storage.
Lewis Martin Sr. bought the dealership and fertilizer plant from his brothers in 1970, and by 1981, his son, Lewis Martin Jr. bought the business from him. With the third generation came the expansion of Martin Brothers Implement Co. 1989 brought a new location to Lexington, Illinois and 1990 to Carthage, Illinois.
By 1994, Martin Brothers had opened their fourth location in Quincy, Illinois and divested themselves of the fertilizer plant to Studer Fertilizer.
In 1996, Gary Rogers, with his wife Karen (Martin) and their son Ben (4th generation), purchased Martin Brothers Implement Co in Roanoke, Illinois, Martin Implement Co in Lexington, Illinois, Martin Farm Equipment Co. in Carthage, Illinois and Martin & Kroencke in Quincy, Illinois. Later in 1996 they purchased the Pleasant Hill, Illinois location to join the Martin & Kroencke Corporation. Bill Sullivan bought in one year later and remains part of the ownership group today.
In January of 2004, Martin Kroencke Sullivan, Inc was formed by merging three locations. The group then included locations in Carthage, Illinois, Quincy, Illinois and Pleasant Hill, Illinois.
Just four short months later, Martin Brothers opened their Outdoor Power location in Bloomington, Illinois, which specializes in lawn care equipment and accessories.
In August of 2012, Heritage Equipment Co. was purchased and Martin Kroencke Sullivan (renamed Martin Sullivan) expanded its service area to Macomb, Illinois.
Martin Sullivan, Inc, as it stands today, is the result of the acquisition of Kleine Equipment in 2014 and the merging of Martin Brothers Implement Co. and Martin Sullivan, Inc. This brought the total location number to 13 and unified all sites under the Martin Sullivan brand.
